Our Classes

Our curriculum at Tutor Birmingham supports the UK National Curriculum, which is organised into blocks of years called ‘key stages’. Our Curriculum is designed to ensure that students know, apply and understand the matters, skills and processes specified in the relevant programme of study by the end of each key stage.

5 to 7 years | Year 1 – 2

Key Stage 1 is a part of the National Curriculum that sets out which subjects have to be taught to children between the ages of 5 and 7 in Years 1 and 2.  Key Stage 1 is taught in primary schools and core subjects such as English and Maths must be taught to comply with the National Curriculum in England.

7 to 11 years | Year 3 – 6

Key Stage 2 is a part of the National Curriculum that sets out which subjects have to be taught to children between the ages of 7 and 11 in Years 3 to 6. Key Stage 2 is taught in primary schools and core subjects such as English, Maths and Science must be taught to comply with the National Curriculum in England.

11 to 14 years | Year 7 – 9

Key Stage 3 is a part of the National Curriculum that sets out which subjects have to be taught to children between the ages of 11 and 14 in Years 7 to 9. Key Stage 3 is taught in secondary schools and core subjects such as English, Maths and Science must be taught to comply with the National Curriculum in England.

14 to 16 years | Year 10 – 11

The courses including core subjects such as English, Maths and Science, studied in Key Stage 4, frame the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and are held at the end of Year 11. GCSEs are subject-based academic qualifications below A levels.

11 Plus

The 11+ Common Entrance Examinations are formulated by the CEM or GL boards mainly (ISEB) and taken mainly by girls for entrance to senior independent girls’ schools at age 11+. Children at the age of 11+ are required to sit examinations in English, Mathematics and Science in November and January of Year 6 prior to entry to senior school the following September.

A-level

We provide A-Level Maths tutoring for all modules including the A-Level Further Maths modules.We are very proud of the 100% A* / A Grade success rate at A-Level Mathematics, considering we will accept any student regardless of ability.

Mathematics underpins our understanding of the world, our ability to appreciate its beauty and power and reason mathematically if taught proficiently. A high-quality mathematics education also provides us with a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.
